What is Safeguarding?
Safeguarding is the term used to cover the measures in place to protect the health, well-being and human rights of people. It means protecting people's rights to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. One of the key areas is about how organisations work together to prevent the risks. However, they must also consider the individual's wishes and beliefs.
Why is it important?
Abuse covers many areas including physical abuse, sexual abuse, financial abuse, organisational abuse and modern slavery. Therefore, it is essential that organisations who work with vulnerable adults have robust safeguarding procedures in place. They must work to ensure that abuse does not occur, however it is does they must also respond accordingly. Organisations that do not deal with safeguarding issues are at risk of failing to meet their duty of care, which could leave people at risk.
