Management of Violence and Aggression (MVA) 1 Day Refresher

Course Summary: 

The aim this course is refresher the knowledge and understanding of staff in Restrictive Interventions and the application of Physical Intervention in a respectful and support environment. Those attending this session will be given the updated information and skills to be able to work following company policy and procedures, that reflect current legislation and best practice with regards to undertaking the support of a service user who needs to be restrained as a last resort, using the least restrictive intervention technique.

The law and legislation pertaining to the use of force
Ascertaining reasonable force
Physical health concerns and restraint
Personal safety and Break Away skills
Physical Intervention skills

This is essential yearly refresher training for staff working within a mental health environment, where service users present a risk to themselves and others.

To be able to access this training, you need to have already completed the 2 Day Management of Violence and Aggression and be within a 3 month grace period of it going out of date. We will require evidence of this, in the form of a copy of your previous certificate.

You will be asked to complete a Pre-Training Health Screen, due to the amount of physical activities within the session. You need to be of reasonable fitness to complete this training. The Trainer will assess if they feel someone isn't physically fit enough to take part in the training. 

You will be monitored closely throughout the 1 day refresher and take part in activities where you will be assessed to see if you are competent to take part in physical intervention within the workplace.


All attendees receive a Certificate of Attendance, which can be used as part of your continuing professional development (CPD).
